Native range: species—Texas
Introduced: 1984 by Berry Fretwell, Peveril Nursery, Devon, England. Cross between Clematis texensis and Clematis 'Bees Jubilee'. Originally named 'The Princess of Wales' but that caused confusion with an older Jackman cultivar so the name was changed.
Sun/Shade: sun, tolerates part shade
Height: 8' × 3'
Zones: 4-10
Flower: Fuchsia-red; on opening, the pointed-tipped gently recurved tepals spread outwards revealing the inner side that is pale pink at margins and vividly pink along the midrib. Contrasting yellow anthers. Trumpet- or tulip-shaped. June to September. 1"-2".
Leaves: pinnately trifoliate
Fruit: Achene
Seed heads: ornamental

Prune:  blooms on new wood, prune hard Feb.-March
